Rapper Jamal ‘Shyne’ Barrow was released today (Oct.6th) after spending nine long years in prison on charges of attempted murder and assault stemming from a 1999 shooting incident at a Manhattan night club.

Shyne was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2001 for attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment for his role in the night club shooting. Barrow changed his name legally changed in prison to Moses Michael Levy in honor of his Jewish heritage (according to gossipandgab.com) and will be under parole supervision for the next two and a half years.

He is currently working on a third album titled Godfather Exhumed which was rumored to be released under Jay Z’s Roc Nation label. Jay-Z has dismissed the stories, saying he does not intent to offer him a recording contract.

"Not true. Lie, gossip, whatever, it's not true." He told New York radio station Hot 97. "I'll be interested in the conversation, it's always a possibility but it just didn't happen,” Jay Z concluded.

Shyne actually signed a deal with Def Jam records from behind bars according to according to the Los Angeles Times. It could be worth approximately $3 million for the first album (with $10 million dollars total for other albums). Def Jam beat out Warner Bros. Records, run by former Def Jam CEO Lyor Cohen, in a bidding war.

The former Bad Boy rapper (born Jamal Barrow) was scheduled to be released from prison Tuesday (October 6) after serving more than nine years of a 10-year sentence in connection with the 2001 Club New York shooting involving Diddy and Jennifer Lopez. But his release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed to MTV News that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize, a rep explained.
